Imagine that you’re in Currys PC World, in Croydon, but rather than being in Croydon you’re actually in Lagos, Nigeria, and now imagine that the sign outside has changed from Currys PC World to CoolWorld. Yes, you’re in one of Nigeria’s leading white goods and electronics stores.
Their previous site was fragmented both in terms of experience and consistency of branding. So we were asked to create a cleaner and more modern design direction and apply it to client-created-wireframes, for a 3rd party build company.
This was far from an ideal situation but by ensuring clear and concise lines of communication between the client, us and - when necessary - the third party build company, we were able to hit all of the various deadlines and actually ended up delivering the final designs ahead of schedule.
My role on the project was to set up the design direction and then oversee the rollout of the project with a junior member of the team. Together we discussed everything that the client was expecting and chose where to suggest improvements to the experience and structure. Between us we established a very trusting relationship with the client, to the point where the finished designs were almost completely different to the initial wireframes - obviously, for the better.
